Most calls about business WiFi on the Gold Coast come down to the same six issues. Each one has a real technical cause and a real fix — and almost always the problem is fixable with the right hardware and configuration, not a full network replacement.
Tyro, Square or Smartpay terminals drop their connection when the venue gets busy — usually because they share the same SSID as customer guest WiFi or staff laptops. The terminal then competes for airtime with dozens of phones, and PCI-DSS requirements aside, you lose sales. We separate payment terminals onto a dedicated VLAN with prioritised QoS so EFTPOS keeps a clean path to the payment processor regardless of how busy guest WiFi gets.
Zoom and Teams calls freeze or drop when the room fills with people, but work fine when it's just one or two. The usual cause is RF interference from the building itself — concrete walls, metal-frame partitions and other Wi-Fi networks bleeding through from neighbouring tenancies. The fix is a proper site survey, correct AP placement, channel planning across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and (with Wi-Fi 6E or 7) 6 GHz, and switching staff devices over to the higher bands.
Customer-facing WiFi running on the same network as staff devices, EFTPOS and your file server is a PCI-DSS finding waiting to happen — and a real security risk if a guest device is compromised. One AP in the middle of the office never covers the whole site — kitchens, cool rooms, stockrooms and outdoor service areas drop off.
